I woke up this morning to an internet posting meme after meme of the the same message. “No Christmas until Thanksgiving!” I sit here giggling and realizing how much like my grandmother I am. This time of year she would already be putting up Christmas lights. She would have them all up and ready to light on Thanksgiving night. There would be a sea of tangled lights through her living room floor as she checked each individual light and changed bulbs and sorted which string went to which plugin to make sure she didn’t blow a fuse. I am definitely like my grandmother because while I read meme after meme I only have one reaction. Bring on Christmas!
Don’t get me wrong, I mean no disrespect for Thanksgiving. I love the day of feasting too. I love that there’s a day to just hang out with your family and be thankful for everything you have. It’s no Christmas though. Christmas is a season of complete magic.
Christmas brings out the best in people and this day in age sometimes that is something you don’t always see. At Christmas people seem happy as a whole. People sing Christmas songs and walk around with smiling faces.. People care more about their neighbors. You see good deed after good deed everywhere you look. I mean think about it, every year there are angel trees in most stores. At Christmas no one gets left out. These kids likely won’t have a special birthday and the easter bunny may not stop by but at Christmas, all that is different. People who post remarks all year about people needing to take care of themselves suddenly are sponsoring angels, working soup kitchens, and paying things forward. Christmas brings out the best in people. Who wouldn’t want that to last as long as it can?
So excuse me while I turn on the Hallmark Christmas movies and breakout the Christmas CD’s. I may even post Christmas Tree pictures in early November. The next two months are 100% magic and I hope everyone soaks up every second of it they can,,, because honestly, we need as much magic as we can get. So bring on the Jingle Bells! This Thanksgiving I’ll be eating turkey around the Christmas Tree and being Thankful for all the magic Christmas brings and for inherienting a love for it that can’t be contained in December alone. Thanks, Nanny!
